Commentaires sur l'espèce

Le Crapaud calamite est un anoure présent sur l'ensemble du territoire national même si la côte méditerranéenne reste l'endroit où il est le plus commun. En Ile-de-France, on le rencontre principalement au sein des grandes vallées alluviales, riches en carrières, son habitat de substitution. On le retrouve également dans certaines zones riches en mouillères, comme la Plaine de Bière.

 

Statut de conservation

Même si l'espèce reste peu fréquente dans notre région, de belles populations résistent dans les secteurs favorables. Le maintien des continuités écologiques au sein des localités est essentiel pour permettre les déplacements entre les différentes populations.

<p>Le Crapaud calamite est observable à partir de la fin mars avec un pic d'activité fin avril. Sa biologie liée aux milieux temporaires lui permet d'être capable d'ajuster ses dates de ponte pour profiter des phénomènes pluvieux. Son chant puissant porte assez loin et est généralement le premier contact avec l'espèce. Les adultes sont par ailleurs très mobiles et se déplacent à la manière d'un rongeur. Le Crapaud calamite est une espèce pionnière et héliophile appréciant les mares temporaires. Comme le Pélodyte ponctué, il utilise désormais les carrières alluvionnaires comme habitat de substitution en Ile-de-France. Les mouillères, même situées en contexte agricole, lui conviennent aussi parfaitement.</p>
